Creating word lists for learning
- If you read books, do you write down the words you don't know? Searching the meanings is of course time-consuming. If you write the words clearly, there is help. Make a photo of your lists.
- Do you also get some daily "Word of the day" emails. Do you read them regularly? I did and did not, so my email folder is now at 2600 wotd emails. Going through 2600 emails is more than time-consuming. But there is some help available too. Make a screenshot of your inbox folder.
In both cases, you get a photo of a list of words.
Case 1, handwritten list
Case 2, e.g. screenshot
Go to Google Images and let it do OCR of your photo. Yes, it can read handwriting.
Result:
Nebulous - plus
Trepidation - pl
Undulant - plus
Cloister - plus,
Flagrant - plus,
Apathy plus, W
Validate - plus,
Salient plus, 'A
Depending on the number of words, I cut off the part of the lines behind the word manually or I request from Gemini/ChatGPT/... to remove the unnecessary parts.
With that cleaned-up list, I ask Gemini to give me a short explanation. If I am not satisfied, I will request further explanations.
Final results:
Nebulous means vague, unclear, or ill-defined.
Trepidation is a feeling of fear or agitation about something that may happen.
Undulant describes something that has a rising and falling motion, like waves.
A cloister is a covered walkway, typically in a religious institution,
or it can refer to a secluded or isolated place.
Flagrant describes something that is conspicuously or obviously offensive.
Apathy is a lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.
To validate is to check or prove the validity or accuracy of something.
Salient describes something that is most noticeable or important.
Good luck with creating your lists.
